Allen Cleans Up At Sydney Surf Meet

BULLI'S Ben Allen conjured up a golden performance at the weekend's state surf-lifesaving titles at Cronulla.
Allen was one of several winners representing Illawarra and South Coast branches, capturing a gold medal in the open surf race and teaming with clubmate Matt Freeman for a second gold in the open board rescue. Freeman claimed another gold with the club's open tube rescue team, and a bronze in the open belt race.Bulli's open women's tube rescue team finished second and Oscar Bradley got a bronze in the under 17 men's surf race.Helensburgh-Stanwell Park's Chris Astill won the under 17 beach sprint and clubmate Laura Mercer was second in the under 17 women's sprint.Also winning silver for Helensburgh-Stanwell Park was the under 17 women's beach relay team, while Tiarne Blackwell bagged a bronze medal for the club in the under 17 women's flags.Warilla-Barrack Point duo Jordan White and Maddison Prior won the under 15 women's board rescue. White added a silver in the under 15 women's board race.Thirroul's Jared Barnes was victorious in the under 15 men's flags and Bernadette Cardillo upstaged her older rivals to take out the under 15 women's sprint. Cardillo also won gold in the same event in the under 14 age group at the previous week's junior state titles.Warilla-Barrack Point's Blair Day picked up a silver in the open 2km beach run and Bulli's David Callaway won the under 15 2km run.North Wollongong's Alana Yardley got a bronze in the under 17 women's 2km run and Bulli's Natasha Federer was third in the under 15 women's 2km run.Wollongong City's Cara Mura won bronze medals in the under 19 women's and open women's surf races, while North Wollongong's Phil Clayton bagged a silver in the over 24 restricted surf race and bronze in the open ironman.City's Dean Buttel was second in the under 19 ironman and third in the under 19 board race.Warilla-Barrack Point's under 19 women's taplin relay team was second and their clubmates got a silver in the under 17 women's board relay.Capturing bronze medals for Warilla were the under 17 men's board relay team, under 17 men's surf team and under 15 women's surf team.North Wollongong's open men's surf team finished third and City's Ben Griffiths bagged a bronze in the under 15 board race.Austinmer were third in the open men's boats, while the club's under 23 men's crew got a silver medal.Mollymook's Melissa Howard was a silver medallist in the open women's flags and Bulli's Mitchell Fagerstrom got a bronze in the under 17 tube rescue.City's Hannah Minogue finished third in the under 17 women's tube rescue and Shellharbour's Jamie-Lee Cotter claimed silver in the under 15 women's sprint.
